And here we are, the dreamers superfoods. I cannot count the amount of times people have stopped me while I am training to ask that same old question. What are you taking? I call it the shortcut question. Now I am not here to bash the use of supplements or whatever people want to put in their bodies. Everyone is responsible for their own health, whether you want to eat junk foods everyday, or eat clean. It is all up to you. Now, if your goal is building muscle, you will need to eat plenty of food. Meals can be five to six servings per day. Eating many meals can be a task in itself. And that is a good time to consider some supplements. Protein for example in a form of whey or plant based, whatever your preference can be an excellent choice for both post workout or when on the go. A staple in my supplements is creatine monohydrate. This is by far the most studied supplement on the market that actually works. Supplements have their place. If you are on a low carbohydrate diet and are training hard for a show or competition, a pre workout will help get that extra boost needed to get you trough that training session. During this Cerveza sickness that is spreading throughout the world, we cannot deny the importance of vitamins like vitamin D, C and zinc. These have been proven to help our bodies ability to fight off attacks on the immune system. Eating a clean diet with plenty of nutrients is essential, but I still take vitamins to make up for whatever the foods may be lacking. Kind of like having an insurance policy. I do believe supplements have their place as mentioned before. But they do not make up for eating real food. Many supplements are loaded with hidden sugars and have processed ingredients which defeat the purpose of trying to get lean and eating healthy. The key is to read the ingredients and purchase them from a reputable company. Supplements will not make up for hard work or discipline. Which bring us to the question. What are you taking? This is not the question to ask. The question should be, What are you doing to achieve the physical conditioning that you have earned?
Supplements have come a long way over the years. Flavors and quality have made astonishing progress. My first protein shake tasted like chalk. New meal replacement bars coming out to the market within recent years have actual REAL food ingredients. Which is awesome in my book. No matter what diet you are following, there are quick on the go meals for those times when you mostly need them. No need to eat a candy bar loaded with sugar and processed ingredients.
All in all, We are living in great times with the privilege’s of getting information on our finger tips and the freedom to choose whether we want to be healthy or not. Choose wisely.
Do the work!
